Enablers of Acceptance
There are many factors that can increase the familiarization and acceptance of the new chart order. The change leader should consider the following:
· Framing the reason and rationale behind changes creates understanding and motivation;
· The change leader should consider the following enablers to increase familiarization and acceptance of the new chart order among health professionals;
· Involving stakeholders in the planning process creates understanding, commitment, motivation and ownership;
· Consult with the people who will be affected by the change;
· Involve those affected by the change with planning and implementation tasks;
· Change needs managed in a way that people can cope with;
· Acceptance of a new chart order is influenced by stakeholder’s perception of advantages, visibility, complexity and compatibility with existing values and experience;
· Engage champions who can promote the cause;A culture of change must be espoused by facility leaders;
· Carefully consider the timeframe necessary to carry out the change -a fast-paced change creates energy and momentum but may disrupt daily operations; and
· Ensurethat adequate education, information and support is provided to all staff impacted by the new chart order. (Burdyny, Findlater, Caron & Ajaz, 2009; Champagne, 2002; Self, 2007; Meyer, Stensker & Inger, 2006; Russ, 2008).
