Key Factors for Successful Implementation

Leading a successful transition from one form of maintaining patient charts to another can be achieved by understanding the key factors for the successful implementation and adopting key strategies that can increase familiarization and acceptance of a new chart order.

Leadership and Commitment
·    Successfully overcoming the many barriers to implementation can be achieved by strong leadership and commitment.
·    Change will not occur in an organization without the push toward embracing innovation and a better way of doing things (Senge, 1999).

Collaborative Culture
·   An environment of collaboration, teamwork and information sharing are vital to successful implementation of a new chart order (Cheese, Silverstone & Smith, 2009).

Change Management
·   Effective change management involves thoughtful planning and sensitive implementation (Champagne, 2002; Cheese, Silverstone & Smith, 2009).
·   The change agent must justify and successfully communicate the need for the change (Self, 2007).
·   The change agent needs to identify the gaps between the desired state and the current state and communicate why the current state is no longer acceptable (Self, 2007).
·    Communication plays a critical role in the implementation phase because at its core, organizational change is a communication challenge (Russ, 2008).
